MEET OUR PARTNERS
IFAD is an international financial institution and a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) created in 1977 to finance agricultural development projects, primarily for food production in developing countries. The creation of this international financial institution has its roots in the 1974 World Food Conference held in Rome, Italy. The conference was organized by the United Nations conference in response to the food crises of the early 1970s when global food shortages were causing widespread famine and malnutrition. One of the conclusions reached was that food insecurity and famine were not so many failures in food production but structural problems relating to poverty.
IFAD’s mission is to transform rural economies and food systems by making them more inclusive, productive, resilient and sustainable.
To fulfil its mission, IFAD pursues three strategic objectives:
// increasing the productive capacity of poor rural people
// increasing their benefits from market participation
// strengthening the environmental sustainability and climate resilience of their economic activities.
IFAD also provides knowledge, infrastructure, institutional capacity and outreach to rural development practitioners. IFAD is headquartered in Rome, Italy, and is active in more than 80 developing countries.
MEET OUR TEAM
BUILDPROC procurement trainers work for the ITCILO (Organizational Development and Project Services Programme – ODPS) or have been selected by IFAD and the ITCILO. Trainers have been selected based on their experience and their ability to teach and transmit procurement knowledge to adult learners who are also active professionals in the sector. The best performing trainers are selected and at each cycle, they are also evaluated for improvement. The team of trainers is global and multilingual.

OUR VISION
// Professionalizing procurement in the agricultural and rural development sector
We want to contribute to the professionalization of the procurement function in the agricultural and rural development sector.
// Creating a Global Community of Practice
Through BUILDPROC, we aim to create and consolidate a sustainable network of procurement practitioners working for agricultural and rural development, bringing together BUILDPROC participants, graduates, trainers and procurement specialists from all countries by providing a space for experience sharing and for facilitating a global discussion.
// Contributing to the effectiveness of development aid
We want to contribute to the development aid effectiveness agenda; to promote a more efficient use of public funds; to contribute to institutional strengthening, good governance and improved public procurement systems in line with international standards in order to achieve better agricultural and rural development results in the medium and long term.
// Building a partnership network
BUILDPROC is rooted in an initial partnership between IFAD and ITCILO. Through the certification and diploma programmes, we aim to extend this initial partnership to other important actors who finance important procurements through projects and who support agricultural and rural development.
// Investing for sustainability
BUILDPROC’s certification and diploma programmes are designed to be sustainable and long-lasting. Beyond the initial cycle of certification and the diploma programme financed under the BUILDPROC project, yearly recurring cycles will be repeated and offered by IFAD and ITCILO for the years to come.
